Shri Vandi Kali Amman Temple is a famous temple situated at Thadikombu Road, Athoor, Dindigul District, Tamilnadu. This temple is devoted to Kali and she is worshipped as Vandi Kali Amman. The Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) is maintaining this temple. The famous temple in Athoor is the Shri Vandi Kali Amman temple. Once a year, a festival is celebrated here. Another famous festival happens in the month of October, just like Thiruvaiyaru Mahotsavam.




Many famous musicians gather here and worship the Lord in "Shri Rama Bajanai Sangam". This kind of worship has been followed for more than 100 years.

Vandi Kali Amman temple in Athoor is located at 10°17'14.1"N 77°51'10.1"E or 10.287245, 77.852809.
History
This temple is situated at the junction of Palani Road and Thadikombu Road. Some persons brought Amman statue from faraway places 100 years ago. The vehicle broke down and the idol was placed below a Neem tree. After repairing the vehicle the persons tried to remove the idol from the place but could not do so. Thereafter the goddess remains there and graces her devotees. Neem tree is the Sthala Virutcham (holy tree) of this temple.




Vandi Kali Amman
Mother graces from the sanctum sanctorum to ensure justice to all. A five hooded snake is above her head as an umbrella. She has four hands. She is seated with her right leg bent while the left is pressed on the ground. She holds Udukkai, snake, skull and a trident in her hands.

 
As Kali is regarded as one to destroy evil and establish justice, festivals to deities in other temple would be celebrated only after pujas here. The mercy of Kali is such that she would pardon those disrespecting her but not those causing harm to her devotees.

Festivals
Thiruvaiyaru Mahotsavam, Panguni and Thiruvizha are the prominent annual festivals of this temple. Thiruvaiyaru Mahotsavam is celebrated during October. During this festival musicians assemble at "Shri Rama Bajanai Sangam". This practice has been shadowed over 100 years. Panguni festival is celebrated for 11 days.
