The hills tribes who cultivated these lands are said to have abandoned this area after plague struck the area. These lands were than utilized by the Government for a Teak Wood plantation. Vaniyar River passes through this Teak forest and leads to the Vaniyar Dam. Bisons are frequently seen in the Teak Forest. It is located at a distance of 11 km from Yercaud Town.


Kottachedu Teak Forest is an unspoiled forest and great for quiet long walks in nature. Here, visitors can catch glimpses of Yercaud’s diverse wildlife, which include foxes, anteaters, swallows, paradise flycatchers, and Bisons. They can also stop by the Vaniyar River and its nearby dam. 



This place is famous for trek lovers, scenic beauty, nature photographers. This is a teak forest on the Ghat section which connects aroor- ayodhipattinam area. This road will be used as secondary road from Salem. Though the distance to travel in this road is too long, those who prefer scenic drive will go in this route.
