Pushpavaneswarar Temple (Also called as Poovananathar Temple) is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located at Thirupuvanam in Sivaganga District of Tamilnadu. The place is also known by other names as Pushpavanakasi, Pithurmokshapuram, Bhaskarapuram, Lakshmipuram, Brahmmapuram and Rasavadhapuram.  Lord Pushpavaneswarar with his consort Soundaryanayaki had played many miracles. Lord Shiva is a swayambumurthy in the temple. On the banks of river Vaigai, it is said, Lord Shiva performed his 36th divine sport. This is holy place where Lord Shiva played his miracle play – Thiruvilayadal – Alchemy – Rasavada play. This is the 255th Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam on the banks of river Vaigai and 11th sthalam in Pandya Naadu. Moovar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. Poovanathaswamy had been praised by Karuvur Thevar in his hymns.
