Mullaivananathar Temple, Thirumullaivasal, Nagapattinam
Mullaivananathar Temple is a Hindu temple located at Thirumullaivasal in Nagapattinam district of TamilnaduIndia which is dedicated to Shiva. It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Tevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanar Tirugnana Sambandar. The place is now declared as a tourist spot.  Sea shore is just half a kilometer from the temple.


There are 2 Paadal Petra Sthalams in the name of Tirumullaivayil. To differentiate between the two, the one near Sirkazhi is referred as Then Tirumullaivayil and the other one in Thondai Naadu is referred as Vada Tirumullaivayil. This is the 61st Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 7th sthalam on the north side of river Cauvery.

History
The temple was constructed by the Early Chola king Killivalavan. The presiding deity is called as Mullaivana Nathar. His consort is known as Ani Konda Kothai Ammai.

Prayers
People who chant the Panchakshara-five letter mantra, Na Ma Shi Va Ya in the temple on Solar and Lunar eclipse days and on new days (Amavasya) would not be subjected to next birth, is the belief of the devotees. Devotees perform abishek to Lord and Mother and offer vastras.

This Temple is located at about 14 Kms from Sirkazhi. Bus facilities to Tirumullaivayil are available from Sirkazhi and Chidambaram. On the way to Tirumullaivayil, one can also visit another Paadal Petra Shivasthalam Tirukkurukavur by taking a branch road at Vadakal village bus stop and travelling for about 1 km. Nearest Railway Station is located at Kumbakonam, Sirkazhi and Chidambaram. Nearest Airport is located at Trichy.
