Sri Gnanapureeswarar Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located at Thiruvadisoolam or Thiruvidaichuram village near Chengalpet in Kanchipuram District of Tamilnadu. It is one of the 275 sacred temples glorified by the Thevara hymns. The Temple is located at a distance of 9 kms from Chengalpet and 18 kms from Tirupporur in the Chengalpet -Thiruporur road. The village is in a beautiful location between two hills and so the name Idai-Churam (Churam meaning a place of hills and forests). This is an ancient Chola temple about 2000 years old built by the early Cholas.






The temple had a Rajagopuram built very recently. It was also a Mottai koil built by early Cholas. This is the 27th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam in Thondai Nadu. Thiruganasambhandar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. The main deity here is Sri Gnanapureeswarar, also called as Idaichura Naadhar. Goddess here is Sri Govardanambikai. This Temple is located in a beautiful surrounding in the midst of hills in a serene village full of greenery and it is neither in a dilapidated state nor in a good shape.

Temple Opening Time
The temple is open from 7.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and from 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.
Festivals
Chitra Poornima in April-May; Wedding festival along with Panguni Uthiram in March-April and Bangle festival (Valaikappu) for Mother on Aadi Pooram in July-August are the festivals celebrated in the temple.

Prayers
Devotees pray here for cure from diseases and for a good looking appearance. Those facing delays in wedding proposals and concerned with the welfare of children pray to the sacred tree offering vastras and yellow thread. Devotees offer abishek to Lord with honey.

Connectivity
Thiru Idai Churam is located about 60 kms from Chennai. It lies on the road connecting Chengalpattu and Thiruporur. Thiru Idai Churam can either be accessed from Thiruporur at about 18 kms or from Chengalpattu about 9 kms. There is an arch on the main road indicating the path to the temple. This village is presently called as Thiruvadisoolam. Thiruvadisoolam is around 5 km from Chengalpattu bus terminus on the Thiruporur-Chengalpattu road.
Private and government buses ply on this road between Thiruporur and Chengalpattu. All the Govt. and Private buses from Chengalpattu to Thiruporur pass through this village. Nearest Railway Station is located Chengalpet and Nearest Airport is located at Chennai.
