Swarnakadeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Neivanai Village in Villupuram District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Porkudam Koduthu Aruliya Nayanaar / Nelvennainathar / Vennaiappar / Swarnakadeswarar. Mother is called as Neelamalarkanni / Brihannayagi. The place is called as Thirunelvennai during ancient times. It is believed that the temple was built during Chola period. This the 42nd Devaram Padal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 10th Shiva Sthalam in Nadu Naadu. Thirugnana Sambandar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple.

History
Thirunelvennai is an ancient and now small temple more than 1300 years old. This is one of the ancient temples of the erstwhile Thirumunaippadi Nadu. There are stone inscriptions in this temple dating back to the period of the Chola King Kulothungan-I. The lord’s name is inscribed as “Porkudam Kodutharulia Nayanar” meaning “the lord who gifted a pot full of gold”.

Temple Opening Time
The temple remains open from 6.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. and from 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. As the residence of the priest is just near the temple, the devotees can have the darshan of the Lord any time.
Festivals
Tirukarthikai in the Tamil month of Karthikai (Nov-Dec), Shivarathri in the Tamil month of Maasi (Feb-Mar) and Arudra Dharisanam in the Tamil month of Margazhi (Dec-Jan) are the major festivals celebrated in this Temple with much fanfare. Pradosham is also observed regularly. Special pujas are offered to Lord Bhairavar on new moon days.

Devotees believe that performing poojas by applying white butter on the lingam (Vennai Kappu in Tamil) will remove obstacles from marriage proposals, help them get better job opportunities and relieve them from their debts.
