Nandikeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Bull Vehicle of Lord Shiva located at Thiruvotriyur, well known locality in Chennai City in Tamil Nadu. Nandikeswarar Temple is located at the north car street (northern side of Thyagarajar Temple) in Thiruvotriyur. The Temple is around 600 years old. This is one of the rare temples dedicated to Nandi, the bull god, the Vahanam of Lord Shiva. There are few temples of bull God in the neighboring Karnataka State. However, they all have big statues of Bull as the deities. However, this temple has a small idol of Nandi, in the human form.

The idol of Nandi is in the standing posture with folded hands as if he is worshiping the Lord. Nandikeswarar temple is very small temple. Apart from this small shrine, there is no other shrine or idol located in this temple. This temple is hardly known to anybody including the people living in Thiruvotriyur. The sad part is that this temple is kept opened only for a very short time daily.

The Temple
There are only two shrines present in the Temple premises. One is the Jeeva Samadhi of Siddhar Mayil Andavar and the other is the Jeeva Peedam of Roma Maharishi. Mayil Andavar Shrine is the principal shrine. This temple has a Mada Koil structure, which houses Jeeva Peedam / Samadhi of Roma Maharishi. The Idol of Roma Maharishi is unique as if he is doing Tapas in stone sculpture. The Idol is 3-4 feet tall.


It appears with Jadamudi (very long hair, tied well, like a crown), in seated posture. In the Jadamudi, there is a Shiva Linga visible. There are 2 beautiful ear-rings. The beard is tied and well-trimmed. There is a Rudraksha mala in the neck. The right hand has a blessing (Varadha) mudra and the left has a small bowl with a spoon. Sthala Vriksham for this temple is Athi.

Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Madam is a Hindu religious Mutt located at Thiruvotriyur, well known locality in Chennai City in Tamil Nadu. It also houses the Adhishtanams of 55th and 61st Pontiffs of Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Madam. Thiruvotriyur is famous mainly because of the magnificent temple of Thyagaraja (Lord Shiva) and Vadivudai Amman. This Madam is located closed to Thyagarajar Temple on the South Mada Street.


Adi Shankara is believed to have camped here and was responsible for stopping human sacrifices and codified the practices to be followed in the Thiruvotriyur Thyagaraja Temple. There is an ancient building next to the temple on the south side where we can find his statue with two sishyas. This building is now under the custody of the Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt and functions as the Kanchi mutt office.


It houses the Adhishtanam (Jeeva Samadhi) of the 61st pontiff, Shri Mahadevendra Saraswathy III. He was previously known as Narayana. It was during his pontificate that Athma Bodha wrote his commentary Susama on the Gururatna Malika. He attained Mukti at Thiruvotriyur, now a part of Chennai on Sukla Navami in the month of Jyeshta of the cyclic year Krothana (1746 AD). His pontificate was for 42 years.


It houses the Adhishtanam (Jeeva Samadhi) of the 55th pontiff Sri Chandrchuda III. He was a native of Asmachala near Manimuthar river in south Arcot district. He was the son of Purari and Shrimathi. His former name was Arunagiri. He was a Dravida Brahmin and he died in the year Swabhanu, Mina Shukla Ekadasi (In the year 1524 A.D). His pontificate was for 17 years.

Draupathi Amman is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Goddess Draupathi, wife of Pancha Pandavas located at Velachery, well-known locality of Chennai City in Tamil Nadu. This Temple is situated on the Draupadi Amman Koil Street at Velachery / Dhandeeswaram / Dhandeeswaram Colony.



Legends
Draupathi Amman is a goddess from the Hindu epic Mahabharata, namely Draupadi, primarily worshipped by the Tamil people of India, Sri Lanka and other countries. Draupathi was the wife of the five Pandava brothers in the Mahabharata epic. The Draupathi Amman cult (or Draupathi sect) is a regional Hindu tradition in which a community of people especially Vanniyars worship Draupathi Amman as a village goddess with unique rituals and mythologies.


History
Draupadi Amman Temple at Velachery is supposed to be several centuries old. The village elders believe that most probably an ancestor belonging to the Aatreya Gothram built it some 300 years ago.  The Temple was completely ruined and the renovation was taken up by some devotees in the late 1990s.


The Temple
The temple is facing north with a sanctum and a mukha mandapam. The original temple was built with brick and it was told that the original temple was more 300 years old. The original brick temple was razed down and new temple was constructed and the second Kumbabishekam was also performed during 2010.



Presiding Deity is called as Draupadi Amman. She is in standing posture with a parrot on her shoulder in the sanctum. Krishna and Pancha Pandavas can be seen on the back side of Draupadi Amman. Utsava Idols are kept on the east side of the sanctum. Utsava Idol of Draupadi Amman was excavated on the same place where the sanctum exists. Sri Chakram is installed in front of Amman Mahameru.


The Tiruvasi was erected recently. It contains, flag, Jwala, Samaram and Suryan. A 1.5-foot-high Dwajasthambam and Pothuraja with his father’s head on his left hand in sitting posture can be seen in Antarala Palipeedam. Brahmi, Vaishnavi, Gowri, Varahi and Vishnu Durgai are the Koshta Idols located around the sanctum walls. Sculptures of Pancha Pandavas, Radha Krishna, Anjaneya can be seen on the mandapam pillars.

The temple remains open from 06.30 AM to 08.30 AM and 06.00 PM to 08.30 PM.

Annual festival is being celebrated every year during Tamil Month Chitrai 1st (May). It will be a 10 days festival and ends with a Theemithi Thiruvizha. The Theemithi Thiruvizha will be conducted after getting permission from Draupadi Amman. A sword was kept in a pot of water and the sword should stand straight, if Amman nods.
