Chathapurinathar Temple

Chathapurinathar Temple
Chathapurinathar temple is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva, as is the case with most temples in and around Chidambaram. Since Shiva is worshipped here as Lord Chathapurinathar, the temple is frequented by devotees of Lord Shiva around the year. By his side, the other deity being worshipped here is Osai Kodutha Nayagi. The name comes from a story where the goddess animated a pair of pure gold cymbals that the lord gifted to a devotee, which could not make sound till then.
The temple is a place where you come not only to worship the deities but also hoping for miracle cures. For the deity is known to have cured what many, including modern science, consider to be incurable diseases. The temple is but only a kilometer away from Chidambaram and is located at a place called Tirukolakka.

Chathapurinathar Temple is located to the west of Chidambaram in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, in a small place called Tirukolakka. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and consequently he is revered here as the main deity, Lord Chathapurinathar.
Situated in the outskirts of the city, Chathapurinathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Siva and Osai Kodutha Nayagi. The temple is known to attract a huge crowd every year, who come to offer their prayers as well as admire its architecture which has remained true to the Dravidian style of the region.
Sthalavaralaru
Sambandar, a divine saint blessed as an infant in his infancy composed many Pathigams as a child. On entering a temple, the baby started singing by clapping his hands.  Siva took pity upon him and gifted him a pair of golden cymbals to save his infant hands from getting sore. But as the cymbals didn’t make the right resonance the goddess Ambal gave the instrument the right resonance. Pleased with her thoughtfulness and care, Shiva made Ambal worthy of higher worship at the temple. And she has been revered here ever since.

The temple is famous for cures and healing. Many thousands visit the temple every year in faith and the hope that they will be able to speak again.
