 It is just 1.5 km from "five rathas" monuments in Mahabalipuram. It shows how the passion of a single person can create wonder. There are two parts of this museum: sea shell museum and aquarium. In sea shell museum, there is a collection of over 40000 different species of snails and oysters, all of them are named accordingly with varied sizes and origin. they have nicely displayed the architecture within a snail, how a pearl is seeded naturally etc, there is a mayabazar associated with the aquarium, and this bazaar has really unique collections made up of conch shell and oysters. It is a place one must visit.





One of the newest attractions of Mahabalipuram, Sea Shell Museum is one of its kinds in India and the largest one in Asia. This is a repository of different kinds of shells (as its name says) and educates the visitors about its details as well; the museum houses a collection of 40k specimens of rare and unique shells.









Sea Shell Museum sprawls over an area of one and a half acre that includes a boutique, aquarium of ocean fishes and a restaurant that serves sumptuous sea-food. Fresh ‘n Live Sea Food Restaurant masters in seafood dishes and is topped with wonderful ambiance. The boutique, Maya Bazaar is stocked with elegant pearl jewelries and other beautiful artifacts made solely from seashells.
