Lakkam Water Falls is tourist attraction located on the way from Munnar to Udumalaipettai. This falls is part of the Eravikulam stream, which is a part of Eravikulam National Park, Wild Life Division of Munnar. This stream is one of the major tributaries of river Pambar. The Lakkam Waterfalls are Spectacular, Broad Sweep of Water Pouring Down in the Midst of Untouched Nature.




Going from Munnar, it is located 35 kms beyond the Entrance to Eravikulam National Park. This entire 35 kms hilly road has Unending, Breathtaking, and Panoramic Scenic Views unfolding one after the other. After payment of Rs.20 Entry Fee per person, a 5min short walk, away from the road, leads to Lakkam Waterfalls view point. Neat Restrooms are maintained by Tourism Department. September – November & Post Monsoons would be best to view the Full Beauty of this Awesome Natural Spectacle.
Located in the Munnar-Marayoor route, the waterfall is surrounded by ‘Vagai trees’. The waterfall originates from the Eravikulam Plateau. Though the stream creates lots of cascades, most of them are inaccessible. But, due to its visual treat, this destination is one of the most preferable destinations for the tourists.




Lakkam Waterfalls is a very popular tourist attraction which witnesses visitors year-round. Lying on the way to Marayoor from Munnar, the waterfall is set amidst dense flora and rolling hills which add to its bewitching beauty. It majestically cascades down from the rocky cliffs of the splendid Eravikulam Plateau (7300 feet above mean sea level). The serene setting combined with the company of your loved ones would ensure a memorable trip to this site.
Originating from the Eravikulam plateau, the stream creates a number of cascades, most of them inaccessible. However, the waterfall attracts a number of tourists due to its visual appeal and poses no threat to those who prefer a bath in the falling stream. The waterfall is near to a stopover on the route.
The Eravikulam National Park, known outside as the habitat of the Nilgiri Tahr (nilgiritragus hylocrius) and the ‘neelakurinji' (strobilanthes kunthiana), is not known much for the waterfalls that offer a visual treat during the monsoon.



Since the start of the tourism season, the place is all abuzz with tourists and majority of them are other state visitors. A dip in the waterfalls would be a nippy experience to many. Forest and Tourism departments have made several arrangements here for the tourists to conduct a safe and thrilling pleasure moments. A stroll through the Lakkam forests would relieve you and imparts a rejuvenating experience. The Log House arranged by the Forest department will help you to see the unmolested beauty of the forest.
One of the waterfalls situated next to Munnar-Udumalpet road. It is hard to miss this falls as forest department has put huge boards mentioning about the waterfall on the road. An entrance fees needs to be paid to get into the falls. There is another stage of this falls upstream. That requires additional permission from Forest Office. But they do not permit people to trek during monsoon season.
Lakkam Waterfalls is located about 35 km from Munnar (Near Eravikulam National Park) It’s on State Highway 17 (Munnar to Marayoor road). Visitors have to pay an entrance fees of Rs.10/-. Visiting Hours will be 8 AM – 5 AM. Coordinates of this waterfall is 10°11'18.3"N 77°06'43.4"E
Tips and Warnings:
·         There is a rest room and changing room facilities if you want to take a dip in the water.
·         It is a photographer’s paradise especially during rainy season.
·         Bring a change of clothes if you want to swim.
·         They have lockers and storage facilities.
·         Best time to go is during the day.
·         Network might be a bit weak, so be patient.

By Air:
Cochin International airport also known as Nedumbassery Airport and CIAL is the nearest airport. It is 110 km away from Munnar by road. Madurai International Airport is 140 Km from Munnar by (National Highway 49).
By Land:

The nearest railway station is Aluva, 110 km. Ernakulum is 130 km Kottayam 140km and Madurai is 135km. You can get the direct regular buses to Munnar First Bus starts at 6AM. It is around 30–35 km from Munnar town. It's on State Highway 17.
