Nagakanniyaman Temple, Thumbur, Villupuram

Nagakanniyaman Temple, Thumbur, Villupuram
Nagakanniyaman temple is situated in Thumbur. To reach Thumbur one has to first reach Thumbur crossroad which is 10 kms away from vilupuram in Villupuram to Gingee route. From there one has to travel 2 kms to reach Thumbur. As it is a remote place it is better to take a rented vehicle from Villupuram itself.

Specialty of this temple is the head of snake statue's head is in one place, body is in another place and tail in another place which is 10 kms away from the main temple.

If one has to become rich suddenly, one has to pray to raagu and if one has to get gnanam, one has to pray Ketu. Due to placements of raagu or Ketu in places like 1, 2,5,7,8 one's life will be affected. Up to certain age one cannot get his reward for his work. To reduce this one has to do raagu Ketu worship. This temple seems to be a good place for worshiping raagu and Ketu.

Temple's Speciality
We are surprised to see some idols that are as tall as 21 feet, 41 feet and 77 feet in some temples. But our elders had made a snake idol that is 10 km long. As it is not possible to see this snake idol in complete form at a time, people have to see the head at a point and the tail at a distance of 10 km. This snake deity is worshipped as Naga Kanni – Naga-snake, Kanni-virgin deity in this context.

Temple Opening Time
The temple is open from 7.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and for a short time in morning and evening in other days.
Festivals
Special pujas are performed in the temple on Fridays in Chithirai month (April-May) and on Mattupongal (Kanum Pongal) day falling almost on April 15 each year.
