Rajagopalaswamy Temple is a
Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Kumbakonam
Town in Thanjavur District in Tamil
Nadu. Presiding Deity is called
as Rajagopala Swamy and Mother
is called as Sengamalavalli. The temple is one of 5
Vaishnava Temples connected with the Mahamaham festival, which takes place in Kumbakonam
every 12 years. There is another temple in the same name at Thoppu Street in
Kumbakonam.
History
The Temple is believed to be
around 500 years old. The Mahasamprokshanam of the temple was held on 19 June
2015.
The
Temple
This Temple is facing towards east with three tiered
Rajagopuram. Presiding Deity is called as Rajagopala Swamy. He is gracing from
the sanctum with his consorts Rukmini and Sathyabama. His posture is similar to
Mannargudi Rajagopala Swamy. Mother is called as Sengamalavalli. She is housed
in a separate shrine. Her Shrine is situated to the right side of the sanctum.
There is a shrine for Srinivasa Perumal to the left side
of the sanctum. He is gracing the devotees with four hands holding Shanga and
Chakram. There are shrines for Anjaneya and Garuda in the Temple premises.
Theertham associated with this Temple are Potraamarai Tank, Cauvery River and
Arasalaru.
Festivals
Aadi Pooram, Navaratri, Masi
Brahmotsavam, Akshaya Tritiya, Garuda Sevai and monthly Rohini Star days are
the festivals celebrated here.
