Palani Murugan Temple – Azhagu Natchiamman Temple

Palani Murugan Temple – Azhagu Natchiamman Temple
This temple is located near Thalai Vali Theerkum Vinayagar Temple. After reaching Thalai Vali Theerkum Vinayagar proceed towards third peacock Mandapa.
Here you can see Idumban Tank abutting the hill. The tank spreads over 148 acres. This Temple is located near the Idumban Tank. To the left of the temple stands Idumban canopied only by the sky. In the space where the papal and the neem are growing together, some unknown couple figure is seen half submerged within the earth. Like Nandi, a lion vehicle is seen in front. There are three Azhagu Nachi Amman temples for Devasthanam, one in Kothai mangalam, the second in Kumarasamudram and the third is this temple.

The term Naikkan is used in Silappathikaram for the father of Kovalan and Kannagi. In Manimekalai this denotes merchants. Nayakan is the same as Naicker. In Telugu it became Naicken. The feminine gender became Naichi, and then corrupted into Nachi. The Idumban hills extend upto this temple, now a doubt arises. Was there a temple for Idumbi here and was it converted into Azhagu Nachi.
