Jada Theertham and its Temple are located at a distance of about 14 kms from Rameswaram en route Dhanushkodi. Sri Ramar is believed to have washed his long hair (Jada) here and so is called Jada theertham. It is considered that taking bath here people will not get affected with poverty and sins; It is considered to fetch good thoughts free from confusions and also get the equivalence of doing all the dhanams.

The water in this tank which is surrounded by sand dunes is as sweet as coconut tree. Tourists can also see Jada Theertham temple within the Kaveri Theertham premises. This temple is very small temple under the trunk of huge Peepal Tree.

Local people believe that all deities in Rameswaram come here to take rest. Maha Shivarathri (Yearly once) celebration and maha Makam (Once in 12 Years) festival are the grand events of this temple.

Legends
Sage, parrot faced Sukha; son of Sage Veda Vyasa performed many Yagnas but could not attain great powers. As advised by Rajarishi Janaka, he came to this place, bathed in the Jadamaguda Theertham and worshipped the Dhyanalingas, Gnaneswarar and Agnaneswarar and became a great rishi.

Maharshi Brigu known for his loving and graceful traits and Maharshi Durvasa known for his temperament had visited this place at different times and reaped great benefits. The Jadamaguda theertha’s power and grace go beyond words.

It is said that Lord Rama and Lakshmana washed their hair (Jada) in this pond, after killing the demon king Ravana and before worshiping Shivalinga in Rameshwaram.
Greatness of Temple
Sri Ramanathaswamy and the Dhyanalinga Murthis grace the devotees with knowledge and wisdom. The holy spring cleanses the devotee from evil thoughts as lust, enmity and temptations (Kama, Krodha and Moha). A single dip in the spring offers the devotee the huge benefit of bathing in the Kumbakonam Mahamaha tank in 12 Mahamaha festivals. His/her sins are washed off. They become enlightened souls and get illustrious children.

The devotee, as a prayer commitment, is advised to organize a feeding called Van Bhojan, (Annadhanam) meditate silently. The Dhynalinga Murthis hear them and address their grievances. The devotee can return with a clear mind free of confusions.
Speciality
Bathing in all the Maga star days each month during the year in the Rameswaram Jadamaguda Theertham brings the devotee the benefit of such bathing in Mahamaha tank 12 times. (Mahamaham is a festival celebrated in Kumbakonam once in 12 Years)
Temple Opening Time
The temple is open from 6.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.
Festivals
Mahasivarathri and Masi Magam in February-March are the important festivals observed in the temple. The temple will be open these days from 6.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. to facilitate darshan for the devotees. Pujas are performed (Trikala Puja) thrice these days.
Prayers
Having a bath in the Theertha and worshipping the Shivalingas in the temple reward the devotee with abundant blessings and relief from sins of even Brahmmahathi dosha gravity.
Devotees pray to the Lingamurthys after a bath in the Jadamaguda Theertha for relief from serious sins. Those suffering with confused or wavering mind unable to solve problems in their life and those seeking child boons pray to the Lord here.
It is said that Siddhas and angels are moving in the place, invisible to human eyes. Devotees arrange feeding here known as Van Bhojan and do meditation.
The Lingamurthys directly listen to their grievances and address their problems directly, it is believed. Those coming to the place with a confused mind, go back with clarity and succeed in taking right decisions after worshipping in this temple.

Sri Jadamaguda Theertha Easwarar Temple is 5 km from Rameswaram on the Dhanushkodi route. Buses are available up to Ramakrishnapuram. The temple is one and half kilo metre from Ramakrishnapuram. Autos, vans and taxis are also available.
