Rajarajan Manimandapam is located in the Southern Part of Thanjavur. It was built in 1991during the 8th World Tamil Conference. It is a beautiful structure and is built in the style of the buildings constructed during the Chola period.







The small and well maintained garden inside is an ideal for children with swings, slides and other such things. It is having a museum in the ground floor, which was built in 1984 to commemorate the 1000th birth anniversary of Raja Raja Chola, who as the most famous king in Thanjavur.









The museum at Thanjavur Manimandapam has a collection of sculptures, bronze statues, paintings, coins and other artifacts to attract the visitors. The statue of Raja Raja Chola is a thing of great beauty. Manimandapam has surrounded by beautiful gardens, delightful lamps. In the middle, they decorated this place with fountain. Visiting this place during night, gives wonderful experience.






Rajarajan Site Museum
The Cholas were the greatest of the south Indian ruling dynasties. Rajaraja I (985 –1014 CE) was the greatest of this dynasty known for his royal endeavor, military conquests, efficient administration and promotion of culture and art. He raised the power of the Chola dynasty to unprecedented heights and paved the way for its continued splendour for another two centuries.





Rajaraja built the grandest of temples in this capital; Rajarajesvaram (Big temple) may be aptly described as a temple created in a short time for all time. It is rich in the field of architecture, sculpture (in stone and metal) and painting and also in the arena of music and dance. The museum was established in the year 1984 as part of the celebration of his 1000th birth centenary. 





Antiquities on Display:
Stone sculptures viz. Yoga Dhakshinamoorthy, Nataraja, Jyeshta, Brahma, Gajalakshmi, Vishnu, Muruga, Bairava, Vinayaga, Surya, Rishi Agasthya and Nandi. The Museum is functioning in the Rajarajan Manimandapam, Thanjavur, and is located at about 50 km from Trichy.
