Sunai Karadu Ayyanarappan Temple is located in Sunaikaradu, Mallur in Salem District. This Temple is dedicated to Village Gods. Mallur is believed to be named after the Mullai flower which is heavily cultivated in the area. The city is home to a Perumal Temple roughly 500 years old.

The temple contains a reclining representation of Vishnu similar to the Srirangam Temple in Trichy. Mallur is also home to Kamatchi Amman and Mariamman Temples. The Eswaran Temple is located on the Sunai Karadu which is famous for its natural flow of water.

The Thursday Market is popular for buying and selling fresh locally grown produce. Mallur is surrounded by numerous brick factories, which are a source of direct & indirect employment. The town is also famous for a local dish of spiced puffed rice.

Mallur is located at 11.55°N 78.13°E.[2] It has an average elevation of 293 metres (961 feet). Mallur is 15 km from Salem and 13.5 km from Rasipuram. The town is located near several mountain ranges.

Nearest Railway Station is Mallur railway station situated in Mallur, Salem district in the Indian state of Tamilnadu. The station is an intermediate station on the newly commissioned Salem Junction-Karur Junction line which became operational in May 2013. The station is operated by the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways and comes under the Salem railway division.
