Kurumbapatti Zoological Park, Salem
Kurumbapatti Zoological Park is a small zoological park situated at a distance of 6 km from the city of Salem. This park is mainly known for its bird species, like the white peacock and small multicolor cranes. The Kurumbapatti Zoological Park is situated on a sprawling 11.5 hectares of reserve forest land, at the foothills of Shervaroyan Hills and developed at a cost of Rs. 10 crore.





This is one small zoological park with natural beautiful surroundings. The Park is filled with different type of animals. Now, from the Chennai, Vandalur Anna Zoological Park two white Peacocks, some small Cranes are brought to this park. More animals are soon to be added to Park.






Four Alexandrine parakeets, 20 rose-ringed parakeets and five plum-headed parakeets have arrived from the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur to be displayed in enclosures put up for them at the Kurumbapatti zoo. Separate enclosures were made for the parakeets to ensure that the visitors have a good view of these magnificent birds.






The start tortoises were also kept in a separate area. Earlier, the park had only one star tortoise, which was seized by the police. The park already has pairs of crocodiles, deer and tortoises.






The park with spotted deer, sambar deer, white peacock, bonnet macaque, grey pelican, little egret, greyheron, turtle, marsh crocodile, star tortoise, plum headed parakeet, rose ringed parakeet, a 58-year-oldelephant Andal and yellow-footed green pigeon treron phoenicoptera were the main attractions for the visitors. Children playground is also present. Though works are on to establish new enclosure, tourists said that the presence of fewer animals and birds makes the park less attractive. 





The park is for visitors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Connectivity
Salem is well connected to rest of Tamilnadu by Roadways & Railways.
From Salem:
Take the route to Hasthampatti, in the Roundana take left and proceed to Yercaud road. After 3kms, near gorimedu Roundana take left which will proceed to the zoo (5kms roughly from there).
From Yercaud:
From Yercaud to Salem at the end of Ghat road, a small diversion is there at right (100m before Ganesh temple) which will take you to the zoo.
