Naamamalai
Hill is located in the Salem District of Tamilnadu. This Hill contains two
temples and an ashram. Shiva Temple and Ashram are located at the foot hills.
Perumal Temple is located at the hill top.
Sri Somanatheswarar Temple:
It is located
at the foot of the Naamamalai. The Agasthiya theertham here will have water
even at the peak of the summer. Sri Somanatheswarar Ashram & Temple is
located at North-East direction from Salem Railway Station. The Ashram 20 Kms
away from Salem Railway Station. This Ashram was established by Subramanya
Swami. He was born in Saurashatra family. His surname is Boosi. He got Deeksha
from Sri Ramana maharishi of Thiruvannamalai.
By 1904
he established the Ashram. He built a Temple of Somanatha at his Ashram site
situated at Naama Malai, Sivan Karadu. The first Kumbabishekam held on
9-5-1951. This date was fixed because, which India's Union Minister Sardar
Vallabhai Patel’s proposal of Lord Somnath Temple at Saurashatra shore of North
India Kumbabishekam held on the same date. Two other representatives of
Saurashatra people attended the North India's Lord Somnath temple
Kumbabishekam. For Salem temple's Kumbabishekam, The Governor of Tamil Nadu of
that time Mr. P. Govindan Nair was invited. The Second Kumbabishekam held on
14-7-2006. So many Saurashatra people participated on that ceremony.
Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple:
This
Temple is dedicated to Hindu Deity Vishnu & it is located at the top of the
hill.
