Thanthondreeswarar
Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located at Perumber Kandikai Village in
Kanchipuram District. This Temple is located at a distance of 1 km from
Perumber Kandigai Murugan temple. This ancient Shiva temple has a very rare
conch with which abhishekams are done. Both the Murugan and the
Thanthondreeswarar temple are taken care by the same family.
The name
of the village itself is very unique, Perum + Peru + Kandigai, meaning that one
should be very fortunate in order to take birth in this village. This village
is situated approximately 5 Kms from Achirappakkam (a small town in Chennai –
Tiruchy national Highway).
It is
said that during ancient times, there were nearly 33 temples in this village.
As days passed on, most of them got damaged due to various reasons and only a
few among them were left.
Legends
Samundeswari
Devi destroyed the two asuras, in the name Sandan and Mundan in this place.
It is believed that King Vikramaditya, an ardent devotee of this Devi, had
prayed to her in this place.
It is
said that in this sacred place, Ambigai is regularly performing Abishegam
to Lord Siva by using Ko Madi Sangu.
It is
believed that below the sthala Viruksham, Sage Agasthya maharishi, in the form
of a lingam, is doing penance. The four sages, known as Sanakaadhi Munivars,
are also participating in that penance, in the form of Nandhis.

Temple
Presiding
Deity is called as Thanthondreeswarar and Mother is called as Thaduthaatkonda
Nayagi. Sthala Vriksham is Thiruvaathi. Temple Pond is located nearby. Main
deity is Suyambu lingam, made of sand. Kanaga Durga Devi can be seen with eight
hands seated over a deer (Maan vahanam).
Ranabhadra
Kali Devi is also found in this temple. A very rare variety of conch, Ko Madi
Sangu, is also found in this temple, evidence of which can be found in the palm
leaves available in Thiru Aduthurai Adheenam.
This is
a very ancient temple. There are many inscriptions found in this
temple. Many beautiful sculptures can be seen in the outer walls. Many
rare deities are also found in this temple.

Achirappakkam, at an about 5 kms you have to turn left and go for about 2 kms.
Thozhuppedu Rail Way Station and Achirappakkam Rail Way Station are the very
nearby railway stations to Perumber Kandigai. However Chennai Central Rail Way
Station is major railway station located at distance of 105 Kms from Perumber
Kandigai. Chennai Airport is located at a distance of 84 Kms from Perumber
Kandigai.
