Aatcheeswarar Temple (Aksheeswaraswamy Temple) is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located near the holy village of Achirappakkam, Tamilnadu, India. The temple is incarnated by the hymns of Tirugnana Sambandar. The temple is off the National Highway No 45 at Achirupakkam (The Chennai-Trichy Highway) after Melmaruvathur. This is the 28th shrine in Thondai region praised in Thevaram hymns. Kannuva Munivar and Gowthama Munivar are said to have worshipped Lord Shiva at this Shivasthalam.










There are two presiding deities in separate sanctum sanctorum for Aatcheeswarar and Umai Aatcheeswarar and also two separate Amman sanctorums Ilangili Ammai and Umayambigai. Demons Tharaka and Vidyunmali destroyed by Lord Shiva are the Dwarapalakas of this temple. Lord Atchipureeswarar is also praised as Acheswarar and Achu Kondu Arulia Thevar.  Lord Vinayaka is known as Achu Muri Vinayaka.

Excavations
Imitated amphorae have been found in the temple in many excavations in the same context of the imported variety. They are found to be used continuously in Tamil Nadu in 6 – 7th century mainly in Thondai Mandalam, which flourished as a prominent political centre under the Pallavas after the Sangam period. Imitated amphorae have been found in many excavations in the same context.

Connectivity
Achirappakkam is located at a distance of 96 kms from Chennai on Trichy – Chennai National Highway (NH45), 10 kms from Maduranthakam 3 km away from the famous temple town Melmaruvathur. Achirappakkam has its own railhead on the Trichy – Chennai railway line.
Achirupakkam is located near Melmaruvathur on Chennai – Tiruchi Road. City buses are available from Chengalpet. This temple is well connected by buses from Chennai city and Tambaram. Nearest Railway Station is located at Melmaruvathur and Nearest Airport is located at Chennai.
