Kailasanathar Temple,
Rasipuram, Namakkal
Kailasanathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Rasipuram Town in Rasipuram Taluk in Namakkal District in Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Aram Valartha Nayaki / Dharma Samvardhini. This temple is considered as one among the Thirupugazh Sthalams as Lord Murugan of this temple is praised in the Thirupugazh hymns of Saint Arunagirinathar.
Legends
As per legend, King Valvil Ori of Sangam era was ruling this region with Kolli Hills as his capital. He was one of the Tamil Kadai Ezhu Vallal (Last Seven Patrons) of Sangam period. He was a skilled archer and an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. One day, he went for hunting and could not spot a single animal. He was tired of his search for animal and was about to leave. Fortunately, he spotted a white swine and shot an arrow. Even after got shot, the animal ran away, and king chased it.
The animal hid in a bush. The king reached the bush and cleared it for finding the animal. Instead, he noticed blood coming out from the forehead of a Linga due to the hit caused by his arrow. Realizing his grave mistake, he fell at the feet of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva granted darshan to him and said that he only came in the guise of the animal. In gratitude, Ori built this temple here. There is a separate shrine for Valvil Ori under the Vanni tree in the prakaram.
History
This temple is said to have been constructed by Sangam era Velir king Valvil Ori in the 1st century CE. He was one of the Tamil Kadai Ezhu Vallal (Last Seven Patrons).

temple remains open from 06.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon and 04.30 p.m. to 08.30 p.m.
Festivals
Chithirai
Brahmotsavam (Apr-May), Vaikasi Visakam (May-Jun), Thai Poosam (Jan-Feb), Masi
Magam (Feb-Mar) and Panguni Uthiram (Mar-Apr) are the festivals celebrated in
this temple. Shankhabhishekam is performed to Mother Shiva Durga on the last
Friday of Aadi (Jul-Aug). Generally, four pujas are performed to Lord Shiva on
Shivarathri day (Feb-Mar) in Shiva temples. Here six pujas (Aaru Kala
Puja) is observed. Special poojas are performed to Saint Arunagirinathar
on Masi Magam day (Feb-Mar).
This
temple has a procession deity for Dakshinamoorthy with four disciples. This
procession deity comes to the shrine of Dakshinamoorthy on the first Thursday
of each month. Ekadasa Rudra Parayanam is observed to Lord Bhairava on the
first day of Karthikai (Nov-Dec) Guru puja is observed for all 63 Nayanmars. Special
prayers are offered to Val Vil Ori on the Adi Perukku Day (18th day
of Tamil month Aadi (Jul-Aug). Monthly pradoshams are also observed here.

Lord
Murugan of this temple is praised in the Thirupugazh hymns of 15th
century saint Arunagirinathar.
Prayers
Devotees
pray to Lord Shiva for artistic skills. Devotees pray to Mother for relief from
evil effects on children. Women seeking child boon pray to Mother in midday of
Pradosha of full moon fortnight with special pujas. They offer coconut,
fruits, raw rice and cooked rice without salt as nivedhana. They believe
this puja would bless them with a child. Devotees perform milk abhishekam
with sweet pudding (Sarkarai Pongal) to Nagar for relief from the adverse
aspects of serpent planets delaying their marriages. Students pray Vikata
Chakra Vinayaka for excellence in studies.
