Metraleeswar Temple, Kanchipuram

Metraleeswar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Pillaiyarpalayam, a well-known locality in Kanchipuram City in Kanchipuram District of Tamil Nadu, India. There are two presiding deities namely Metraleeswarar and Odha Urugeeswarar housed in respective sanctums in this temple. Mother is called as Metrali Nayagi / Parasakthi. This Temple is considered as one of the 108 Shiva temples mentioned in Kanchi Puranam.

This Temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams (Shiva Sthalams) glorified in the early medieval Thevaram poems. Appar and Sundarar, the 7th Century Tamil Saivite poet, venerated Metralinathar in their Devaram hymns. This temple is considered as the 2nd Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam in Thondai Nadu. The temple is closely associated with Saint Thirugnana Sambandar, but strangely, the hymns of Sambandar on Lord Shiva of Metraleeswarar temple are not yet found.
