Veera Anjaneyar Temple, Pudupakkam, Chengalpattu

Veera Anjaneyar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman located in Pudupakkam village near Kelambakkam in Vandalur Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. The Temple is situated on top of the Gajagiri Hills.

History

The Temple is believed to be built in 15th century CE. It is said that the Anjaneya idol was installed by Madhwa Saint Vyasatirtha (1460–1539 CE), the previous avatar of Saint Raghavendra Swamy. This idol is one of the 732 Vyasa Pradishta Hanuman idols in India. It is also said that he established 108 temples for Lord Hanuman. This Temple is one of among them and also, the hill temple has 108 steps based on this belief.

Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 7.30 AM to 11.30 AM and 3.30 PM to 7.30 PM. On Saturdays, the temple remains open from 5.00 AM to 1.00 PM and 3.30 PM to 9.00 PM.

Festivals

Hanuman Jayanti and Sri Rama Navami are the famous festivals celebrated here with much fanfare. Devotees goes for girivalam around the hills during Pournami days. The Temple is considered as Pari Vettai Sthalam for Thiruvidanthai Nithya Kalyana Perumal Temple, one of the famous 108 Divya Desams.

Prayers

People pray to Veera Anjaneya by covering him with butter (Vennai Kappu) and offer garlands of betel leaves with Arugampul on Tuesdays to realize all their wishes in life, for jobs and promotions. Devotees worship Veera Anjaneya on Moola Nakshatra days by offering garland of betel leaves and Vada to remove obstacles in marriage alliances. People tie coconuts with husk and bell in the temple to realize their wishes.

People carry bricks with the name of Lord Rama engraved on it, climb the steps to reach the temple and worship Lord Anjaneya will realize their wish in building homes and buying properties. It is said that spraying the Theertha on the devotees in Valampuri conch after the pooja will relieve one from all types of dosha.

The Temple is located at about 750 metres from Pudupakkam Anjaneyar Temple Bus Stop, 5 Kms from Kelambakkam, 13 Kms from Thiruporur, 18 Kms from Vandalur, 18 Kms from Vandalur Railway Station, 18 Kms from Sholinganallur, 22 Kms from Tambaram Railway Station, 23 Kms from Tambaram, 29 Kms from Chennai Airport, 37 Kms from Chengalpattu and 40 Kms from Chennai. The temple is situated on Vandalur to Kelambakkam route. Frequent buses are available from Vandalur and Kelambakkam.
