Karunakara Perumal Temple, Paiyanoor, Chengalpattu

Karunakara Perumal Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Paiyanoor Village in Thiruporur Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Karunakara Perumal. He is gracing the devotees along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi. This Temple is located next to the Etteeswarar Temple.


History

This temple is believed to be built by Pallavas. Lord is mentioned as Arulananda Perumal in the inscriptions available in the nearby Etteeswarar Temple.


The Temple

This temple is facing towards east. Dhwaja Sthambam, Balipeedam and Garudalwar can be seen immediately after the entrance facing the sanctum. There is a small stone Deepa Sthamba in front of the Dhwaja Sthambam. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Sanctum and Ardha Mandapam. There is a newly built Mandapam running around the sanctum sanctorum.


The Ardha Mandapam is guarded by Dvarapalas Jayan and Vijayan. Presiding Deity is called as Karunakara Perumal / Arulananda Perumal and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in Abhaya Hasta posture along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi. He is in standing posture.


Idols of Vinayaga, Durga, Lakshmi Narayana, Hayagriva and Lakshmi Narasimha can be seen on the niches along the walls of the sanctum. There is a separate shrine for Anjaneya in the temple premises. The temple has a flower orchard and a Tulsi garden. Theertham associated with this temple is Bhairavar Kulam. This Pond is shared between this temple and the nearby Etteeswarar Temple.

The temple remains open from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon and from 4.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.

Connectivity

The Temple is located at about 400 metres from Paiyanoor Junction, 8 Kms from Mamallapuram, 10 Kms from Thiruporur, 29 Kms from Chengalpattu, 30 Kms from Chengalpattu Railway Station, 44 Kms from Tambaram, 50 Kms from Chennai Airport, 54 Kms from Chennai Central Railway Station, and 55 Kms from Chennai. Paiyanoor is situated on Chennai to Mamallapuram via Thiruporur (OMR Road). Devotees travelling on this route after crossing Arupadai Veedu Engineering College, at Paiyanoor junction turn right and travel for about 400 meters to reach this temple. Bus facilities are available from Chennai, Chengalpattu and Mamallapuram.
