Naganathaswamy Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Keezhaperumpallam Village near Poompuhar Town in Tharangampadi Taluk in Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Naganathaswamy and Mother is called as Soundaryanayaki. This Temple is considered as one of the nine Navagraha (nine planets) temples of Tamil Nadu associated with the planet Ketu (South Node). The Temple is situated on the southern banks of Cauvery river.

Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 06.00 AM to 12.00 Noon and 04.00 PM to 07.00 PM. This Temple remains open even during Rahu kalam and Yama Kanda Kalam.

On every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8.30 pm to 09.00 pm the Arthajamam pooja is performed.

Festivals

Vasuki Utsavam is celebrated in Panguni (Mar-Apr). On the 3rd day of the festival, the event of Lord Shiva granting darshan to Kethu is celebrated. Planet Kethu comes in procession on this day and on the Rahu-Kethu transition days. Special Homa is conducted on the Rahu-Kethu transition day. Masi Maha Shivarathri (Feb-Mar), Thiru Karthigai (Nov-Dec), Purattasi Navaratri (Sep-Oct) and Aippasi Abhishekam (Oct-Nov) are the other festivals celebrated here. Monthly pradoshams are also observed here.

Prayers

People pray to Lord Naganathaswamy & planet Kethu for general family welfare & prosperity, for courage, relief from gastric troubles & neurological setbacks success in litigations, progress in trade, avoidance of accidents, freedom from fear of death and welfare of succeeding generations. People perform pooja to Lord Ketu Bhagawan with red lilly, kollu (horse gram) and cloth in various colours for relief from illness, marriage obstacles & poverty, excellence in education & family prosperity, relief from Naga dosha, Ketu dosha and other doshas. Poojas are performed at Rahukala and Yama Kanda Kala times. The nivedhana should be distributed in the temple to visitors and should not be taken home. It is auspicious to pray Ketu on Mondays and birth star days.

The Temple is located at about 2 Kms from Dharmakulam Bus Stop, 3 Kms from Poompuhar, 3.5 Kms from Poompuhar Bus Stand, 8 Kms from Thiruvengadu, 12 Kms from Thirukadaiyur, 16 Kms from Tharangambadi, 20 Kms from Vaitheeswaran Kovil, 21 Kms from Sirkazhi, 23 Kms from Sirkazhi Railway Station, 25 Kms from Mayiladuthurai and 150 Kms from Trichy Airport.

Take any bus plying on Sirkazhi to Poompuhar route, get down at Dharmakulam Bus Stop and hire an auto to reach this temple or take Bus No 5 C from Sirkazhi to reach this temple. Bus No 31 C from Mayiladuthurai to Vanagiri passes through this place. There is mini bus service from Karuvilanthanathapuram and Dharmakulam to this temple.
