Bhoomeeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Kunnam Village in Sirkazhi Taluk in Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Bhoomeeswarar and Mother is called as Aruna Vidhruma Nayaki / Pavazhambal / Shenbagam. The temple is situated on the southern bank of Kollidam river.

History

The Temple was believed to be built by Cholas and was extensively renovated by a local chieftain called Sangaman under the Cholas.

The Temple

This temple is facing towards east with an entrance arch. The entrance arch has stucco images of goddess Bhudevi worshipping Lord Shiva. Balipeedam and Nandi can be seen immediately after the entrance arch facing towards the sanctum. The temple consists of sanctum, ardha mandapam and maha mandapam. Presiding Deity is called as Bhoomeeswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Shiva Lingam.

Mother is called as Aruna Vidhruma Nayaki / Pavazhambal / Shenbagam. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine in the prakaram. There are shrines for Vinayagar, Murugan with his consorts Valli & Devasena, Dakshinamoorthy, Chandikeswarar, Kanni Amman, Vishnu and Navagrahas in the temple premises. Theertham associated with this temple is Chakkara Theertham. It is situated opposite to the entrance arch. Sthala Vriksham is Vilwa Tree.

Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 08.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 05.00 p.m. to 07.00 p.m.

People pray for relief from all evil and sin impacts and for prosperity. Devotees perform abishek to Lord and Mother and offer Vastras.
