The Temple

This temple is facing towards east with an entrance arch and completely enclosed within a compound wall. His mount, mouse and balipeedam can be found facing towards the sanctum. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum and ardha mandapam.  The sanctum is guarded by Sanga Nidhi and Padma Nidhi instead of dvarapalas. The sanctum enshrines an image of Nalayiram Pillaiyar. During milk abhishekam, a portion of milk goes inside the idol.

There is a pond in front of the temple. It is believed that this pond is the Yaga Kundam created by Lord Rama for his Yagna. It is said that the water in this pond looks saffron in color during 1960’s. Even if someone took bath in the pond wearing white clothes, their clothes would not stained with saffron colour. During the cleaning process of the pond, people removed the original sand of the pond. From then on, the water in the pond looks like the water in the normal pond.

Festivals

Vinayagar Chathurthi is celebrated with much fanfare during the Tamil month of Aavani (Aug-Sep). During the Ekadasa Rishabaruda festival in Rohini star day in the Tamil month of Vaikasi (May-Jun), Lord Nalayiram Pillaiyar grants darshan to the devotees along with the Lords of the Ekadasa Rudra Kshetrams of Nangur.
