Semponarkoil Swarnapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple located at Semponarkoil in Nagapattinam district of Tamilnadu. This place is also called as Tiruchemponpalli. The historical name of the place is Lakshmipuri and Indirapuri. The presiding deity is Shiva. He is called as Swarnapureeswarar. His consort is known as Suguntha Kundalambikai. It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Tevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanars Tirugnanasambandar and Tirunavukkarasar.
This is the 159th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 42nd sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. Swarnapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple located at Semponarkoil near Mayiladuthurai on the road to Tharangampadi. This is located 10 kms east of Mayiladuthurai. This is one of the Maada temple constructed by Ko Chenkat Chozhan.

The Temple
This temple is a Maadakkovil built at an elevation. The roofing is made of Sempon and so the place is known as Semponarkoil. The rays of Sun fall on the presiding deity for 12 days in Chithirai (April-May) in the morning hours when special pujas are performed in the temple. On the ninth day a car festival is celebrated called Soura Mahotsavam. Shivalinga in the temple is on a 16 petal lotus designed Avudaiyar – the peeta. Theertham is called as Surya Pushkarani and Sthala Vriksham is Vanni Tree.

Urchavars of this temple are Somaskandhar, Natarajar and Chandrasekar. Idol of Pitchadanar is very old. Sudhai Sirpams of King worshiping Lord Shiva and his both sides monk and minister. Ambal is in a separate Sannadhi with Sabtha Kanniyars. Idols of Vanadurgai, Viswanathar, Srinivasaperumal, and Sibi Kaatchinathar with maan and mazhu, Balasubramaniar, Gajalakshmi, Jeshtadevi, Veerabadhrar, Suryan and Bairavar can be seen. In Koshtam, Indira Ganapathy, Dhakshinamoorthy, Arthanareeswarar, and Durgai can be seen. There is no Kodimaram and Rajagopuram.

Temple Opening Time
The temple is open from 6.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and from 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.
Festivals
