Subramanya Swamy Temple, Ettukudi, Nagapattinam

Subramanya Swamy is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Murugan located in Ettukudi Village in Thirukkuvalai Taluk in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Soundareswarar / Soundara Nayagar and Mother is called as Anandhavalli. Though the presiding deity is Lord Shiva, prime importance is given to Lord Murugan even the temple is famously called as Ettukudi Murugan Temple. Lord Murugan of this Temple is praised by Saint Arunagirinathar in his revered Thirupugazh hymns. This temple is linked closely with the temples in Sikkal and Enkan Murugan Temples, through the legend that the images of Skanda in all three of these shrines were made by the same sculptor.

This temple follows the architectural style of the Chola period built during the reign of a chieftain called Mutharasar.

Temple Opening Time

The temple is open from 4.30 a.m. to 12.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.

Festivals

10 days Chitra Poornima (Apr-May), Aippasi Skanda Sashti (Oct-Nov), Vaikasi Visakam (May-Jun), Thiru Karthigai (Nov-Dec) and Margazhi Thiruvadhirai (Dec-Jan) are the festivals celebrated here. Kruthika is also observed here.

Prayers

Those who are timid in nature worship Lord Murugan to gain confidence and courage. Devotees worship Lord Murugan for child boon, to remove marriage obstacles and excellence in education. It is a general belief that the devotee is relieved of his/her sins by simply touching the Saravanan Poigai water.

Connectivity

The temple is located at about 100 metres from Ettukudi Bus Stop, 2.5 Kms from Thirukkuvalai, 10 Kms from Kachanam, 13 Kms from Ammanur Railway Station, 18 Kms from Thiruthuraipoondi Railway Station, 19 Kms from Thiruthuraipoondi, 26 Kms from Thiruvarur, 32 Kms from Nagapattinam and 136 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is located at about 10 Kms from Kachanam on the Thiruvarur to Thiruthuraipoondi route. Buses are available from Thiruvarur and Kachanam on Thiruthuraipoondi road. The bus from Thiruvarur to Vedaranyam passes through this village.
