Adinathar
Jain Temple in Nallur in Thiruvannamalai is a famous Jain Temple for Jain
communities. Jains visit this temple and perform their worship. This temple is
an ancient old Jain temple and said to have built more than around 500 years
back. Special Poojas and Festivals are performed here with much gaiety and
fervor.
The
Temple
The
Jinalaya reflects old Dravidian temple art style and Jains traditional models.
The layout consists of all features like Sanctum, Ardhamandapam, Mahamandapam, Muhamandapam,
Kudagarai, etc. The east entranceway with iron gates is secured by the all-round
compound wall. Four pillared Mandapam called Pandagasalai is located adjacent
to the entrance of the Temple.
A Dwajasthambam
and an altar pedestal are in the open corridor. Also a stone made Manasthampam
pillar is located on a platform with four Jinar bas relief sculptures at the
bottom and four Jinar stone idols on the top mini-porch. The sanctum has a
gigantic Shri Adhinathar stone plate bas relief with shamara maids,
tri-umbrella canopy, and prabha circle behind the head is installed on a
plinth.
The
Jinar and the singathathana are protruding from the other back carvings, is
unique one. It is crowned by two stage Vimana shikhara with padmam and
uni-kalash on the top. Along the first stage four sitting postured Jinars on
the sala portion and the top tier got standing state Jinars below the Nasi
position on each directions and also with supporting idols, Devars, Kandharvars.
Daily
pooja platform got a stone plate carving of Shri Rishabadev at the back side of
ardhamandapam and also an old Jinar in depreciated condition are seated. Apart
from many metal alloy idols of all category i.e Thirthankars with prabha
circles, 24 Thirthankar mould, Navadevatha, Pancha Parameshti, Mahameru, Nandeeswara
deepa and some Yaksh, Yakshies are also decorated on either side platforms.
Stone
idols of Shri Brahmadevar seated on an elephant and Shri Kooshmandini Devi was
installed on individual pedestals of the aisle. The wing is secured tightly by
strong doors. The Mahamandapam south and north pillars has bas-reliefs of Shri Vardhamana
and Shri Rishabadevar images. At top of the fore-porch is decorated by a gallery,
inside the curved box a mortar image of Shri Adhinathar with two whisk maids.
On the north
side of corridor got a pavilion, there were the miniature arrangements of Jinar
preaching venue i.e reflections of Samavaran model, having all the specimens at
the traditional arena. This is one of the beautiful diminutive models of the
Jain monuments.
Also a
Navagraha idols shrine is adjacent to the pavilion. The lotus type pedestal
having nine metal alloy images of Navagraha images is distinct one. All poojas,
rituals and festivals are conducted and celebrated recurrently at the relevant
times.
