Dheerkajaleswarar
Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located in Nedungunam Village in Thiruvannamalai
District of Tamilnadu. The Temple is situated at the Esanya corner of Nedungunam
village near the Yoga Ramar Temple. The Presiding Deity is called as Dheerkajaleswarar
and Amman (Thayar) is called as Balambika. The temple will be open from 6 am to
10 am and from 5 pm to 8 pm.
This
Temple is almost 1000 years old. In Tamil "Theerka" mean
"Nedumaiyaana"(Height) and "Asalam" mean
"Kundru"(Hill), so this Village is called as "Nedunkunram".
Here Lord Shiva appeared in the form of Hill, so this lord Called as "Theerkajala
Eswaran". The Ancient name Nedunkunram was changed day by day and
nowadays called as "Nedungunam".
Connectivity
Nedungunam
is to the West of Vandavasi; to the East of Polur; to the North of Gingee; to
the South of Arani and to the North-East of Thiruvannamalai. The temple is
located on the Vandavasi-Chetput main road itself. Nedungunam is located at
about 3 Kms from Chetpet, 20 Kms from Arani, 40 Kms from Thiruvannamalai and 24
Kms from Vandavasi.
Nedungunam
can be reached by bus from Kancheepuram, Thiruvannamalai, Vandavasi, Chetpet
and Arani. Bus Numbers 148, 208 and 422 from Koyambedu bus stand go
through Nedungunam. The temple is on the main road itself and so you can get
down right at the temple entrance. Nearest Railway Station is located at Polur
and Nearest Airport is located at Chennai.
