Iravatheeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple located in the village of Thirukottaram in the Tiruvarur District of Tamilnadu. Constructed by the Medieval Cholas about 1000 years ago, the temple is dedicated to Shiva. The temple is situated on the banks of the Vanchiyaru River a tributary of the Cauvery River. Main Deity is small Swayambu Lingam known as Iravatheeswarar and his consort known as Sukuntha Kundhalambigai / Vandavar Kuzali Amman. Sthala Vriksham is Parijatham and Theertham is Vanjiaru and Soorya Theertham. Historically this place is called as Thiru Kottaram. Tirugnanasambandar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. This is the 170th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 53rd Sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu.

History
The temple was built by Kulothunga Cholan in the year 1253 AD. Stone inscriptions in the temple refer to the King as Maduranthagan Kulothunga Cholan.

The temple is open in the morning from 7.00 till 11.30 and from 6’o clock to 8.30 in the evening.

Arudhra Dharisanam and Vaikasi Visakam are the festivals celebrated in this temple with much fanfare.

Tirugnanasambandar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. This is the 170th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 53rd Sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu.

The Temple is located at about 14 Kms from Kollumangudi, 12 Kms from Peralam, 13 Kms from Thirumeyachur, 11 Kms from Nedungadu, 15 Kms from Karaikal, 28 Kms from Mayiladuthurai, 48 Kms from Kumbakonam and 135 Kms from Trichy. Devotees must take the bus that goes via Kumbakonam, Nedungadu to Karaikkal and get down at the Velankuti EB stop. The temple is situated about 1 Km from there. Nearest Railway Station is located at Peralam. Nearest Airport is located at Trichy.
