Pereyil Jagadeeswarar Temple, Thirukollampudhur, Thiruvarur
Pereyil Jagadeeswarar Temple is a Hindu
temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Thirukollampudhur in Tiruvarur District of Tamilnadu. Historical name of the place is Ogai Pereyil. Now this
place is called as Ohaiperaiyur or Vengaramberaiyur. It is one of the shrines
of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Thevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanar Thirunavukkarasar. This is the 231st Devaram
Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 114th Sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery
in Chozha Naadu. The Natarajar image here is said to be of great beauty. Four
worship services are offered here each day. Presiding Deity is called as Jagadeeswarar.
Mother is called as Jagan Nayaki / Pen Amirtha Nayaki. Sthala Vriksham is
Narathai Maram (Citric Tree). Theertham is Agni Theertham.

Lord Shiva is said to have blessed Devas at this Shetram.
The
Temple
The temple has a 3 tier Rajagopuram facing east with a
single prakara. Presiding Deity is called as Jagadeeswarar. Mother is
called as Jagan Nayaki / Pen Amirtha Nayaki. Sthala Vriksham is Narathai Maram
(Citric Tree). Lord Shiva in the temple is a Swayambumurthy. Theertham is Agni
Theertham. There are shrines for Lords Karpaga Vinayaka, Muruga, Bhairava,
Ayyanar, Sun-Surya, Moon-Chandra, Lingodhbava and Mothers Mahalakshmi and Durga. Lord
Sabapathi-Nataraja here is more handsome than in other temples. Nattukkottai
Chettiyar’s has done Thirupani in this Temple and sculpture of Valliammai Achi
of Muthuppattinam; Karaikudi is located in the front mandapam.

Opening Time
The Temple remains open from 8.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and
from 4.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.
Festivals
Margazhi Tiruvadhirai in December-January and Maha Shivarathri
in February March are the festivals celebrated in the temple. The temple
celebrates Chithirai Sashti festival for Lord Muruga in April-May.
Singers
This is the 231st Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and
114th Sthalam on the south side of river Cauvery in Chozha nadu. Appar has sung
hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. Appar glorified this small shrine
in a pathigam of his in Tirukkuruntokai. Woman poet of this place Muruvalar’s
verses in Kurunthogai and Purananuru-Sangam literatures-speak the reputation of
this temple.
Prayers
Those suffering from leprosy pray here after a dip in
the Agni theertha hoping to be cured. Devotees perform special pujas and
abishek to Lord offering vastras.

Connectivity
The Temple is located at about 8 Kms from Kamalapuram,
15 Kms from Thiruvarur, 14 Kms from Mavur and 115 Kms from Trichy. Kamalapuram can
be reached by buses bound to Mannargudi running via Lakshmangudi. Ogai Perayur
is located to south of Kamalapuram. Town buses are available from
Thiruvarur Bus stand and the route no’s are 353 (Thiruvarur to Vikrapandiyam /
Kottur) and A32 (Thiruvarur to Vadivaikkal).
While coming from Thiruvarur, this Shivastalam can be
reached by taking an Eastward diversion at Vengaramberaiyur, just before Velukkudi,
towards Vadapathi Mangalam. While coming from Mannargudi, this can be reached
by taking an Eastward diversion at Needamangalam before the Velukkudi Bridge.
Nearest Railway Station is located at Mavur and Nearest Airport is located at Trichy.
