Sathyavageeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Anbil Village near Lalgudi Town in Trichy District of Tamilnadu. The place is also called as Anbilalanturai and is located in the banks of Kollidam River. The temple has a 5-tier Rajagopuram, an outer prakaram (outer courtyard) and a Nandavanam (flower garden). There are lots of inscriptions in the walls of the temple revealing Chola architecture.







The temple is said to be built by Parantaka Chola I during 9th century. Lord Shiva is the presiding deity known as Sathya Vageeswarar / Brahmapureeswarar / Alanduraiyar faces east with his consort Goddess Soundaranayagi. Appar and Sambandhar have revered the temple in their verses in Devaram. This Temple is considered to be the 111th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 57th Sthalam on the northern side of River Cauvery in Chozha Nadu.

History
It is believed that the temple was originally a Maada Kovil (a temple built in a raised platform). It was rebuilt by the Chola King Parantaka I in the 10th century CE. It is believed that he had migrated Jaimini Brahmins of Sama Veda into this village. It should be noted that Sevi Saitha Vinayakar idol of this temple is also named as Sama Veda Vinayaka. The inscriptions from the Cholas and the Hoysalas are found in this temple. Aniruddha Brahmarayar, the famous and powerful prime minister of Sundara Chola (10th century CE). The same king's copper plates are very popular among the historians. Anbil copper plates are one of the major sources for the Chola history.

The temple is open from 6.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and from 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.
Festivals
Margazhi Thiruvadirai in December-January; Masi Maha Shivarathri in February-March and Panguni Uthiram in March-April are the festivals celebrated in the temple.
Singers
The Lord of the temple is praised in Thevaram hymns of Saints Thirugnana Sambandar and Thirunavukkarasar. This Temple is considered to be the 111th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 57th Sthalam on the northern side of River Cauvery in Chozha Nadu.
Prayers
Those suffering from hearing troubles pray to Lord Vinayaka in the temple. Devotees perform abishek and Vilwa leaf archana to Lord Mother.

Anbil is located at about 30 Kms from Trichy, 8 Kms from Lalgudi and 27 Kms from Samayapuram. Frequent bus facilities are available from Trichy Bus stand. One has to get down at Keelanbil bus stop to reach the temple. Nearest Railway Station is located at Lalgudi (9 Kms) and Nearest Airport is located at Trichy (35 Kms).
