Sri Kalahasti Temple is renowned for performing Rahu Ketu Sarpa Dosha Nivarana Puja. This is a highly effective pooja conducted in the temple for persons who are affected by Rahu Ketu doshas, Grahadoshas, and people who are unmarried and childless, perform this puja to remove such doshas. Rahu Kethu Sarpa Dosha Nivarana Pooja is conducted daily from 6.00 AM to 8.30 PM in batches. The Uniqueness of the Idol at Kalahasthi Temple is that Lord Siva manifested here having all the 27 Nakshatras (stars) and 9 Rashis in his Kavacham. Kalahasti temple is the only temple which remains open during Grahanam (Solar and Lunar Eclipse) also. Even Priests also never touches the Shivalingam here with hands.
Rahu Ketu Sarpa Dosha Puja is performed to minimize the ill effects of this Dosha / yoga. Thousands of devotees perform this Pooja in Srikalahasthi and gets the expected results. The Rahu Ketu Pooja is completed in 30 to 40 minutes, and it is will be fine if performed during Rahu kalam. Unlike other pooja which consist of Homa, Hawana (fire ceremony), this Rahu Ketu Dosh Nivarana Pooja is done by chanting mantras for two metal snake strips that represent Rahu and Kethu. Mantra recitations and Puja is done by Sankalpa of the person’s Gotra and Janma Nakshatra. No need to discard your cloths or having a bath after the pooja. You can go with the same cloths.
Pooja Items are two metal images of Rahu and Ketu, Laddu-Vada Prasadam, Flowers (from a different counter), Vermillion (sindoor) and Turmeric (haldi). Good result can be acquired by performing Kaal Sarpa Dosha Nivarani pooja if performed twice in a year, once in the Dakshinayana (July 15th to Jan 15th, night time for the Celestials) and once in Utharayana (Jan 15th to July 15th, day time for the Celestials). If possible perform “Rudhra Abishekam” after completing the Kaal Sarpa Dosha Nivarani Pooja.
No advance booking by telephone or money order is allowed. You can book the pooja only if you are physically present at the temple. And your pooja ticket must be used up on that day itself. If you are particular that the pooja be conducted during Rahu kalam (for maximum effect) be at the temple at least an hour or two before the start of Rahu kalam and buy your ticket from the appropriate counter located within the temple walls. On all the days in a year, the Pooja is performed from 6:00am to 7:00pm except on the day of Maha Shivaratri. It is believed that the most important days to perform Rahu-Ketu Pooja are Amavasya day in a calendar month and Sunday Amavasya.
Kaal Sarpa Dosh Puja Rates:
·        For Rs: 300/ This puja is performed in a hall outside the temple premises.
·   For Rs: 750/- pooja is performed near the main temple premises in an A/C hall which has Siva Sannidhi inside.
·        For Rs: 1500/-Rahu Kethu puja is performed inside the temple premises.
·        For Rs: 2500/ VIP Ticket Rahu Ketu pooja is performed inside the temple premises.
·        For all these Tickets 1 + 1 Adult with One Kid is allowed
Do’s and Dont’s after performing the Kaal Sarpa Dosha Puja:
Do’s:
·        Take a head bath before performing the pooja.
· Females should perform the pooja before or after eight days of Menstruation.
·   Consult a good Astrologer and seek the guidance to perform the pooja according to your Janma Nakshathra.
Don’ts
·   Do not visit Friends or Relatives house on the way back to your home after Rahu Ketu Pooja.
·   Pregnant ladies should not perform the Dosha Nivarana poojas in the temple. Avoid visiting temples where any type of Dosha Nivarana Pooja is performed.
·        Do not offer Sastanga Namaskara in any Naga Devatha temple.
·        Do not visit the Temple with oiled hair.
