Vamanapureeswarar Temple, Thirumanikuzhi, Cuddalore
Vamanapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Thirumanikuzhi Village in Cuddalore District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Vamanapureeswarar / Uthavinayagar / Manikkavarathar. Mother is called as Ambujakshi / Uthavinayagi / Manikkavalli. Tirugnanasambandar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. This is the 49th Devaram Padal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 17th Sthalam on the banks of river Kedilam in Nadu Naadu. Saint Arunagirinathar has also sang songs in praise of Lord Murugan of this temple in his revered Thirupugazh. It is said that this temple is the first among the 1008 renowned Shiva temples.

History
The temple is situated on the southern banks of river Gadilam and at the foothill of the Capper hills. It is believed that this temple was renovated by the ancient emperors Thirisangu and Harichandra. It was also improved during the time of the Chola kings. The historical names of this place are Vamanapuri, Indiralogam and Bheemasangama Kshetram. This is one of the oldest temples of Lord Shiva built during the regime of Kings of Chola Dynasty. The temple inscriptions reveal that the Kings of Pandya and Vijayanagara Emperors are also have made abundance of contributions to this temple.

Prayers
Devotees seeking “Santhana Prapthi” (child boon) come here and worship Goddess Ambujakshi. There is also a procedure involved in this worship. The devotees are advised to circumambulate the shrine eleven times wearing wet clothes on a new moon day. They are also advised to offer butter as “neivedhyam” and consume it for 45 days. Couples who are separated due to family problems worship Lord Shiva in this temple and offer their prayers. Devotees perform abishek to Mother and Lord and offer vastras.
