Korakkar Siddhar Temple, Theroor, Kanyakumari
Korakkar
Siddhar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to famous Siddhar Korakkar located
at Theroor Village near Suchindram in Kanyakumari District of Tamilnadu. Korakkar was
a Siddhar, one of the celebrated yogis of South Indian Hinduism. He
was a student of the Siddhars Agathiar and Bogar, and is mentioned various times in the works of
Bogar. His works include Korakkar Malai Vagatam (Korakkar's
Mountain Medicines), Malai Vaakadam, Korakkar
Vaippu, Kaalamegam, Marali Varadham, Nilaiyodukam, and many
more.
This
Temple is very small Temple and in dilapidated condition. The Temple is located
midst of paddy fields with the Western Ghats in the background. Though the
Temple is known by Korakkar Siddhar Temple, the presiding deity is Shiva called
as Yogeeswarar. Idols of Korakkar, Kala Bhairava and Nagars can be found in
this Temple.
The
Temple is located at about 1.3 Kms from Theroor, 5 Kms from Suchindram, 8 Kms
from Vadiveeswaram, 10 Kms from Nagercoil, 18 Kms from Kanyakumari and 82 Kms
from Thiruvananthapuram. Nearest Railway Station is located at Nagercoil and
Nearest Airport is located at Thiruvananthapuram.
