Angalamman Temple, Kaveripakkam, Vellore
Angalamman Temple is a Hindu Temple located in the town of Kaveripakkam in the Vellore District of Tamil Nadu. The temple is one of the earliest stone structures
in Tamil Nadu and has remains of the Pallava and the
early Medieval
Chola period.
While the temple is dedicated to Angalamman, the idol of Shiva is the most prominent
and he is seated in the utkutikasana posture with the leaves of
the Vedas in his hand. This temple is built for the
Goddess Angalamman and some special ceremony called Mayana Kollai at graveyard
will be conducted every year. People will take Amman from the village to
graveyard and will be doing pooja to worship the goddess.
The Temple is located at about 850 meters from Kaveripakkam,
1.6 Kms from Kaveripakkam Bus Stand, 17 Kms from Walajah, 17 Kms from Ranipet,
38 Kms from Arakkonam, 42 Kms from Vellore, 22 Kms from Mahendra Vadi, 17 Kms
from Ranipet Railway Station and 98 Kms from Chennai. Nearest Railway Stations
are located at Mahendra Vadi and Ranipet. Nearest Airport is located at
Chennai.
