Madhyaneswarar Temple, Koothappar, Trichy
Madhyaneswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple
dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Koothappar Village near Thiruverumbur in
Trichy District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Madhyaneswarar and
Mother is called as Anantha Valli. This
temple was constructed by Kulothunga Chola.
Legends
Koothappar:
As per
the belief. Lord Shiva appeared in front of Muniyandi at this place. As per the
historical stories Lord Shiva appeared in front of god Muniyandi in his dancing
pose. As he appeared in the dancing pose he is called as Koothappar at this
temple.
Other Names:
The
place is also called as Mathyarjunapuram (mean City in the mid of Arjuna
Forest), Pavala Vanam and Koothaiperumanallur.
The
Temple
The
temple architecture is in the form of Mada Kovil. Mada Kovil means it is
constructed in such a way that elephant cannot enter inside the temple. Presiding Deity is called as
Madhyaneswarar / Marundeeswarar and Mother is called as Anantha Valli. There is also another
temple in front of this Temple for Muniyandi, for whom Lord Shiva appeared in
his dancing pose.

The
Temple remains open from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
Prayers
If the
unmarried men worship here the belief is that they will get married soon. It is
also famous to worship for getting a child.

Temple is located at about 5 Kms from Thiruverumbur, 6 Kms from Cholamadevi, 15
Kms from Chatiram Bus Station, 17 Kms from Trichy Central Bus Stand and 13 Kms
from Trichy. There are plenty of town buses from Trichy Chathiram bus stand and
Trichy central bus stand. Nearest Railway Stations are located at Thiruverumbur
(5 Kms) and Trichy (15 Kms). Nearest Airport is located at Trichy (16 Kms).
