The Temple
The Temple is situated in an acre of land in the eastern part of the Town. Presiding Deity is called as Thirukkarisanadhar. Lord Shiva is Swayambu Moorthy in this Temple. The Swayambu lingam is bigger than the Avudaiyar (base). Shiva Lingam can be seen with sixteen facets on its cylindrical part, a feature called as Shodasa Linga found mostly in Pallava temples in Mamallapuram and Kanchipuram. It is now found inside the enclosure. Mother is called as Dharma Samvardhini.

There is 6 feet tall Panchaloka Natarajar Idol with his consort Sivagami Ambal and as per historical records it is said to be bigger than the one in Chidambaram - One of the Pancha Sabhai. This Natarajar statue will look alike the same in Chidambaram Natarajar Temple. The unique artistic marvel of this idol is that whenever Abhishekam is performed for this deity, the abhisheka Theertham will always come down through the right leg. Due to safety, Natarajar statue is now kept in Karivaradharaja Perumal Temple.

There will be separate sannidhis for Lord Ganesha, Lord Nataraja and Goddess Sivakami. The images of Goddess Durga, Lord Brahma, Lord Subramanya and Lord Chandrasekara are also present here. These date back to the Pallava and Chola era. When Kumbabishekam was performed in 1978, a statue of the cow known as "Karampasu" was installed on the top of the front portion of the temple.

The temple abounds in relics and inscriptions on the outer wall of the sanctum Santorum made of green stone (pachakkal). These stone inscriptions refer to the period dating back to latter half of the 10th century - period of Raja Raja Chola, his great grandson Adhi Rajendra Chola and Kulothunga Chola.
