Literary
Mention
The three Saivite saints who came to worship and sing
hymns for Lord Shiva of Thiruvalangadu, stopped at Pazhayanur, claiming that it
is a sin if they tread on the Thiruvalangadu soil on which Karaikkal Ammaiyar
walked on her head and hands. They are said to have sung their praises to the
Lord from this temple. In Tamil, there is a hymn sung by the Saint Tirugnanasambandar
explaining this story as well as Sekkizhar in his Periya Puranam narrates this
story elaborately. This shows the temple is of Sangam age.
