Parvatheeswarar Temple, Medhur, Thiruvallur
Parvatheeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Medhur Village near Thirupalaivanam in Thiruvallur District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Parvatheeswarar and Mother is called as Kamakshi Amman.



Legends
After capturing North India, Rajendra Chola on his way back to Chola Kingdom stayed here for night with his army. He found his elephant got fainted tied to the Palai Tree. Out of rage, he ordered to cut down the tree. When they started cutting the tree, blood started oozing out from the tree. Hence, he ordered his troops to slowly excavate and to find the reason behind the blood. They found a white colored Lingam from the bottom of tree hidden inside the roots. On seeing the Lord, Emperor Rajendra Chola ordered his troops to build a temple for Lord and bestowed the temple with lot of lands for the Poojas and maintenance of the temple.


History
The Temple was built in 1116 AD as per the inscriptions in Thirupalaivanam Shiva Temple.


The Temple
Presiding Deity is called as Parvatheeswarar and Mother is called as Kamakshi Amman. As per the inscriptions, the village is called as Medhukur later got corrupted to Medhur.

The Temple is located at about 200 meters from Medhur Bus Stop, 4 Kms from Thirupalaivanam, 13 Kms from Pulicat, 6.5 Kms from Ponneri, 8 Kms from Ponneri Bus Depot, 7 Kms from Ponneri Railway Station, 56 Kms from Thiruvallur, 44 Kms from Chennai and 58 Kms from Chennai International Airport.
