Viswaroopa Panchamuga Anjaneya Swamy Temple, Thiruvallur – The Temple

Viswaroopa Panchamuga Anjaneya Swamy Temple, Thiruvallur – The Temple
This temple is very small and it has only one idol - the 40 feet monolithic idol of Hanuman. There are a lot of temples where you can find big idols of Lord Hanuman. However, the uniqueness of the temple is that the idol of the temple has five faces. A lot of Hindu Gods and Goddesses have more than one face. The uniqueness of Lord Hanuman is that each face represents different deity. The five faces of Hanuman represent Hanuman, Hayagriva, Narasimha, Garuda and Varaha.

The face towards the East is Anjaneya Swamy Mukha which removes all blemishes of sin and confers purity of mind. The South facing mukha of Narasimha removes fear of enemies and confers victory. The West facing mukha of Garuda drives away evil spells, black magic influences and removes all poisonous effects in one's body. The North facing mukha of Lakshmi Varaha wards off the troubles caused by bad influences of the planets and confers all prosperity – Ashta Aishwarya.

The face looking upwards of Hayagriva confers knowledge, victory, progeny and mukthi. The massive idol will be installed as per the Mantra Sastra and not under the Agama Sastra. The temple also enshrines the Utsava (procession/metal) idol of Panchamukha Hanuman.
