Sivagurunathaswamy Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Sivapuram near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Sivagurunathaswamy / Sivapureeswarar / Brahmapureeswarar / Sivapuranathar and Mother is called as Aryambal / Singaravalli / Periyanayaki. It is believed that this is the birth place of Saint Aadhi Shankaracharya’s mother. This temple is under the administrative control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of Government of Tamil Nadu (HR&CE).




The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Thevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the Nayanmars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. Tirugnanasambandar and Appar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. This is the 184th Devaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 67th Shiva Sthalam on the south of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. Saint Arunagirinathar has sang songs in praise of Lord Murugan of this temple in his revered Thirupugazh. Saint Manikkavacakar has also rendered pathigam praising the lord here.

Temple Opening Time
The Temple remains open from 07.00 AM to 12.00 Noon and from 04.00 PM to 08.30 PM.
Festivals
Four worship services are offered each day. Tamil New Year day on Chithirai first (April-May), Aani Tirumanjanam (June-July), Vinayaka Chaturthi in Aavani (August-September), Navarathri in Purattasi (September-October) Skanda Sashti and Aipasi Annabishekam (October-November) Tirukarthikai & Karthikai Somavarams-Mondays, in (November-December), Dhanur month pujas and Tiruvadhirai in Margazhi in December-January, Thai Pongal falling almost on January 14, Mahasivarathri in February March and Panguni Uthiram in March-April are the festivals being celebrated in the temple. Kubera Pooja is celebrated in a grand manner on Deepavali. Pradosham is also observed regularly.

Prayers
Worshiping the lord here on Deepavali during Kubera Pooja is believed to bring prosperity to devotees. Devotees pray to Mother-Goddess for child boon by performing abishekam and observing fast for 11 Fridays with Archanas to the Goddess. They also pray for the removal of doshas (adverse aspects) and for health of the children. On realizing their ambitions, devotees perform abishek with Vastras. Those financially well, contribute for the maintenance and renovation of the temple and do poor feeding. Angapradakshina is famous in this temple and devotees believe that by doing this, they will be relieved from illnesses and their legal battles will be resolved in their favour. Devotees worship Lord Kala Bairavar here to seek his help in overcoming their difficulties.

The Temple is located at about 400 meters from Malaiyappanallur, 2 Kms from Karuppur, 3 Kms from Sakkottai, 4 Kms from Kumbakonam Railway Station, 4 Kms from Thirunageswaram, 5 Kms from Kumbakonam, 6 Kms from Nachiyar Koil, 10 Kms from Thiruvidaimaruthur, 38 Kms from Thiruvarur, 47 Kms from Thanjavur and 97 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated at a distance of about 5 Kms south-east of Kumbakonam on the Kumbakonam – Sakkottai – Thiruvarur Route. From Sakkottai, take the diversion road to Sivapuram. Sivapuram is located at about 2.5 Kms from the Sakkottai Velaanmai Virivakka Mayyam.
Get down at Pattamani Iyer stop on Kumbakonam to Mannargudi route and Sivapuram is via Malaiyappanallur about 4 Kms from main road.
