Kasi Viswanathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in George Town area of Chennai, the capital of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. This Temple is one of oldest temples of George Town locality in Chennai. As per few records, the temple was constructed in 1806 CE. The temple is located in Krishnappa Naicken Tank Street in Kondithope.


The east facing temple has no gopuram. The east facing sanctum enshrines midsized Shiva Linga called as Kasi Viswanathar. Ganesha, Dakshina Murti, Lingodhbava, Brahma and Durga are the Koshta Deities located around sanctum walls. The Goddess Visalakshi is found in a separate south facing shrine in the inner prakara. Annapoorani is also found in the shrine of Visalakshi.


There are shrines of Ganesha, Lord Subramanya with his consorts Valli and Devasena, Shiva Linga & Uma, Nataraja (Utsava Idol), Navagraha, Saneeswarar, Lord Srinivasa with his consorts Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi, Lord Shanmukha with his consorts Valli and Devasena, Chandikeswara and Ayyappa in the Temple premises. There is an outer prakara too, which is spacious and is open to sky.


The idols of Bhairava, Ganesha, Veerabhadra, Saraswathi, Surya and Chandra are also found in the Temple premises. There is a huge tank, Krishnappa Naicken Tank adjoining the Temple covering an area of 1.5 acres. The temple is popular in this locality. Most of the North Indian devotees who stay nearby are daily and regular visitors of the temple.

The Temple is located at about 500 meters from Padmanabha Theatre Bus Stop, 1.5 Kms from Mannady Metro Station, 2.5 Kms from Chennai Central Railway Station, 5 Kms from Egmore Railway Station, 13 Kms from Koyambedu Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus and 21 Kms from Chennai Airport. The Temple is located very close to the Mannady Metro Station. You can proceed on foot to this Temple from the station. From other parts of the city, you can take a Cabs, Auto Rickshaw, Bus, Local Trains and Metro Trains to reach the Temple.
