Mallikeswarar Temple, Mannady, George Town, Chennai
Mallikeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Mannady in George Town area of Chennai, the capital of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The Temple is located at Linghi Chetty Street, Mannady. Presiding Deity is called as Mallikeswarar and Mother is called as Maragadambal. The Temple is supposed to be constructed in the 16th or 17th Century, this temple is more than 400 years old. The temple also finds mention in some British chronicles of 17th Century.




Legends
Legend has it that a Chola king, out hunting in this area, came upon a bunch of Jasmine shrubs. The king orders his soldiers to clear up the weeds and create a beautiful garden around the jasmine shrubs. When this is done, they discover a Shivalingam buried under sand. Hence the name for this place – Man-Adi. The king immediately orders a temple to be built around the lingam. As the Lingam is found amidst Jasmine Shrubs. Lord is called as Mallikeswarar.

The Temple is located at Linghi Chetty Street, Mannady. The Temple is located at about 500 meters from Collector Office Bus Stop, 700 meters from Chennai Beach Railway Station, 1.5 Kms from Parrys Corner Bus Stop, 1 Km from Mannady Metro Station, 4 Kms from Chennai Central Railway Station, 6 Kms from Egmore Railway Station, 13 Kms from Koyambedu Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus and 21 Kms from Chennai Airport. The Temple is located very close to the Mannady Metro Station. You can proceed on foot to this Temple from the station. From other parts of the city, you can take a Cabs, Auto Rickshaw, Bus, Local Trains and Metro Trains to reach the Temple.
