Venugopala Swamy Temple, George Town, Chennai
Venugopala Swamy Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in George Town area of Chennai, the capital of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The Temple is situated in Linghi Chetty Street very near to Mallikeswarar Temple. The Temple is maintained by the elected trustees of Arya Vysya Telugu Beri Vysya Saba a registered body.  





The Temple
The temple is facing east with a mandapam in front. The mandapam was built during 1977 by a Christian by name Susai Udaiyar and Mr. Ananthachari at a cost of Rs 35000.  A case of win in favour of Susai, through Aanathachariyar, so he made this contribution. Garudalvar Sannadhi is located in front of the Sanctum. Balipeedam and Dwajasthambam are located on the back of Garudalvar Sannadhi.




Presiding Deity is called as Venugopala Swamy. He is housed in the sanctum with Thaayars and Urchavars. Utsava Idols of Alwars, Lakshmi Narasimhar, Venugopala Swamy and Thaayars can be found in the Artha Mandapam. Mother is called as Mahalakshmi. Shrines for Mahalakshmi and Andal are at the back side of the sanctum. There is a Shiva Linga and Nandhi with female relief panel is installed in front of Mahalakshmi Sannadhi.



There is a Lakshmi Narayan Idol facing north can be found in the Mahalakshmi Sannadhi. There are shrines for Alwars, Varadharaja Perumal, Lord Rama with Seetha and Lakshmana, Bajanai Perumal, Anjaneyar and Stucco images of Perumal’s 10 Avatharams in the Temple premises. There are three inscriptions which says that there are properties donated by the devotees to take care of the expenses of the daily poojas.



Temple Opening Time
The Temple remains open from 08.00 AM to 11.00 AM and 06.00 PM to 08.00 PM.
Connectivity
The Temple is located at about 100 meters from Mallikeswarar Temple on the same Linghi Chetty street. The Temple is located at about 500 meters from Collector Office Bus Stop, 700 meters from Chennai Beach Railway Station, 1.5 Kms from Parrys Corner Bus Stop, 1 Km from Mannady Metro Station, 4 Kms from Chennai Central Railway Station, 6 Kms from Egmore Railway Station, 13 Kms from Koyambedu Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus and 21 Kms from Chennai Airport. The Temple is located very close to the Mannady Metro Station. You can proceed on foot to this Temple from the station. From other parts of the city, you can take a Cabs, Auto Rickshaw, Bus, Local Trains and Metro Trains to reach the Temple.
