Chandrasekara Swamy Temple, Kamakkur, Thiruvannamalai
Chandrasekara Swamy Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Kamakkur Village near Arani in Thiruvannamalai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Ilampirainathar / Piraisoodiya Peruman / Chandrasekara Swamy and Mother is called as Amirthambigai. Saint Arunagirinathar had sung about Lord Murugan of this Temple in his Thirupugazh Hymns. The Temple is also considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam. The Temple belongs to Chola Period.


Legends
Equivalent to Kasi:
When a person was travelling to Kasi through this with an asthi kalasam, the bone pieces turned into Arali flowers and since then this is considered equivalent to Kasi Kshetram.
Lord Shiva came in the dream of Jayam Konda Chola:
The Lord came in the dream of King Jayam Konda Cholan and induced him to do some renovation works in this temple.
People worshipped Lord Shiva here:
Lord Muruga, Chandran, Arjunan, Manmathan, Rathi, Dasaratha, King Viwasvan, a lady called Kamakoti worshipped Lord Shiva here and got liberated of their sins.
Kamathur:
The place is known as Kamanagar and Kamathur in ancient period and later got changed to Kamakkur. There is a sanctum for Kamakshi Ammai. Hence the name for the place is Kamathur in olden days. 
The Temple
The temple has a 4-tiered Raja Gopuram. Dwajasthambam, Nandhi and Ganesha shrine can be seen immediately after the entrance. Presiding Deity is called as Ilampirainathar / Piraisoodiya Peruman / Chandrasekara Swamy. Lord is a Swayambu Moorthy. Mother is called as Amirthambigai. She is housed in a separate shrine. She is in standing posture. There is a shrine for Lord Murugan in the temple premises. Lord Muruga is facing north in sitting posture with 12 hands. He is having six faces and 12 hands. Similar Murugan Idol can be found in Devikapuram Kanagagreeswarar Temple. Lord Murugan has been praised in Thirupugazh Hymns.


There is a shrine for Devi Kamakshi in the Temple premises. She is also known as Tripurasundari. She is holding flower in one hand and sugarcane to the other hand. Aadhi Sankarar installed Srichakra in her shrine.  The Dwarabalahi of this Mother shrine emanates different musical notes when tapped at different points. Just opposite to this Mother Shrine, Yazhi made of green stone can be seen.


There is a shrine for Nataraja in the Temple premises. Here Lord Nataraja’s posture is different from other places. Here his left leg is on the floor and the right leg is placed from the back of left one in twisted form. The dance Mudra of this kind is known as Chatura Thandavam. Sahasra Lingam also can be found in the Temple premises. There are 5 Theerthams in this temple. Pooja is performed only twice daily.

The Temple is located at about 5 Kms from Sedarampattu Railway Station, 8 Kms from Arani, 8 Kms from Arani Bus Stand, 9 Kms from Arani Road Railway Station, 16 Kms from Padavedu, 25 Kms from Polur, 33 Kms from Vellore, 33 Kms from Chetpet, 62 Kms from Thiruvannamalai and 131 Kms from Chennai Airport. The Temple is located on Arani on Padavedu route.
