Melmudi Ranganathar Temple, Coimbatore
Melmudi Ranganathar Temple is
a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located at top of the Hill inside
Thadagam reserve forest near Coimbatore City in Coimbatore District of Tamil
Nadu. The Temple is situated in the highest peak in Coimbatore North taluk of
Coimbatore district. It is 1615 m high. It is visible from every part of
Coimbatore taluk. This is an ancient temple of Lord Vishnu started by a saint,
a devotee of Lord Vishnu whom he started worshiping for continuous 50 years
till his soul left his body. The temple is active only in the holy month of Purattasi.
The saints of this Temple arrange food for devotees every day during this month.
This Temple is said to have
been a temple for Murugan some years back. Some old local peoples of this
village had confirmed this fact and an empty stone pitham also confirms this
hypothesis. This Murugan had been praised by Saint Arunagirinathar in his
Thirupugazh Hymns. The Temple is located at about 2 Kms from Chinna Thadagam
Bus Stop, 12 Kms from Thudiyalur Railway Station, 16 Kms from Coimbatore, 19
Kms from Ukkadam Bus Stand, 19 Kms from Coimbatore Railway Station and 30 Kms
from Coimbatore Airport.
