Parasareswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Ponnur Village near Vandavasi in Thiruvannamalai District of Tamil Nadu.  Presiding Deity is called as Thirukameswarar / Parasareswarar / Brahmeswarar / Kameswaram Udaiyar and Mother is called as Santhanayaki. The temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam. Saint Arunagirinathar had sung about Lord Murugan of this Temple is his Thirupugazh Hymns.

Legends

It is believed that Lord Brahma worshipped Lord Shiva here. Hence it is also called as Brahmapuri and Swarnapuri. Also, it is believed that Sage Parasara worshipped Lord Shiva of this Temple.

History

The Temple was built during Pallava Period. It is believed to be 1300 years old. The village might be a well-known town during Samburvarayar rule. There are inscriptions in this temple belonged to Kulothunga Chola, Sundara Pandyan and Vijayanagara Kings.

The Temple

There is no Rajagopuram for this Temple. The Temple is having single prakaram. Presiding Deity is called as Thirukameswarar / Parasareswarar / Brahmeswarar Kameswaram Udaiyar. He is housed in the sanctum. Sanctum comprises of Sabha Mandapam, Maha Mandapam, Artha Mandapam and Sanctum Sanctorum. Mother is called as Santhanayaki. Mother Shrine comprises of Sabha Mandapam, Maha Mandapam, Antarala and Sanctum.

Both the sanctum and Mother Shrine are situated on the Sabha Mandapam. Hence darshan of Lord and Mother can be possible standing at one place. Sanctum is facing east and Mother shrine is facing south. There is a Pallava era shrine for Lord Vishnu in this Temple. Theertham associated with this Temple is Brahma Theertham. Theertham measures 80 feet long and 40 feet width. Sthala Vriksham is Sara Kondrai. One Kaala Pooja has been conducted in this Temple.

The temple is considered as 240th Thevara Vaippu Sthalam. Sundarar had mentioned about this Temple in one of his Hymns. Saint Arunagirinathar had sung about Lord Murugan of this Temple is his Thirupugazh Hymns. The Temple is mentioned as Thamanaiyapathi in Thirupugazh Hymns.
